San Francisco, from the water
Captain Molly Breivis operates Molly’s Boats on San Francisco Bay. Her work moves between fishing trips, private tours, open-water swimmer support, memorial voyages, and specialized vessel services. The boat is a workplace, but it is also a way for other people to experience a city from a different angle.
In her public biography, Molly describes herself as born and raised in San Francisco. She traces an early connection with the water to diving with her mother. Those are her own accounts of a relationship that began well before the charter listings and guest reviews: the Bay as part of everyday life, rather than a destination visited from somewhere else.
A city can be home. So can the water beside it.
The work behind Captain Molly
Molly holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master license, 100 Gross Register Tons, Near Coastal Waters, with Radar Observer and Commercial Assistance Towing endorsements. She has run charters as Molly’s Boats since 2022, all from Hyde Street Harbor at Fisherman’s Wharf, on a 27-foot Shamrock pilothouse boat called Miss Molly.
Her work with swimmers is on the public record too. Two 2025 UltraSwimming entries name Molly as boat pilot and Molly’s Boats as escort vessel for round-trip Angel Island swims, about ten miles each. On those days the swimmer does the swimming and the pilot watches everything else: the line, the current and the shipping traffic.

The strongest pattern in verified guest reviews is about how people feel in Molly’s company. First-time anglers and families describe patience and helpful instruction. Others mention responsive planning, calm boat handling, cleanliness, and the flexibility to make a day feel personal.
These are themes across public reviews, rather than a substitute for interviewing the guests themselves. A birthday, a first catch, a proposal, and a memorial are very different reasons to step onto a boat. Together, they help explain why the human side of this work matters as much as the itinerary.
In a public Captain Experiences Q&A, Molly describes an approach centered on the guests. It is a useful thread through her story: the captain brings the knowledge and judgment, while the people aboard give the day its purpose.
